Over the past four months I have had a lot of people from outside New Orleans boggled by what had happened. Even in NYC, a place no stranger to parlyzing disaster, they failed to understand the sheer scope of what had happened. Here is a link to an animated map of the city that shows the water. Postscript: As you will see in the comments this representation is incomplete.Yes, thats right there is additional flooding that is not shown in this graphic. Thanks to Editor B and an Anonymous poster for giving me the heads up.

    Pretty impressive, but I think there are some inaccuracies in the data. According to this, my neighborhood wasn’t flooded at all. But it was. I noticed similar maps published online by FEMA. There’s a gap in the data somehow. The flood just seems to cut off according to some very bizarre straight lines.

    There was a lot of flooding through Mid-City into Central city which doesn’t show on this video/model.
