I, of course, had to look at this in depth…and still investigating. Glad to see Susan Larson’s book there, but that’s a gimme.
A pleasant surprise, of all the novels that could be on there, only Confederacy. When I first read Toole’s book, a mandatory thing for a newly arrived bookseller here, I hated it. I’m rereading it now. And, to be honest, most of my gripes about it are still there. But this time, I appreciate the reasons I find it distasteful…and at the same time, absolutely dead-on honest about this miasma of a city. I was really glad to see it on the list despite my own preferences about it.
