Burn Out

I am seriously considering shutting HumidCity down for good. It is becoming too painful to write about the city and events in it. Every single day seems to be nothing but more bad news. (i.e. every single day for the past week or so has brought news of someone I know getting shot, killed, mugged, or beaten). Then there is the family chaos, which is just as bad. I am rapidly reaching the point where I need to get completely selfish and focus on my own life.
This is not a “closing soon,” anouncement, at least not yet.

Oh, your vocabulary word for the day is,”FUCK!”

Yeah, it can be tough to SIFT THROUGH all the recovery crap, forget blogging about it. Not that everything has suddenly become shiny happy back to better-than-normal down here…but sometimes, ya gotta do what ya gotta do to preserve your sanity and live again. And if many, many more people do the same around here, it will most likely help turn things around.

Don’t shut it down, Loki. Just take a break. The blog doesn’t have to be a burden, but it might just be the perfect place to lay your burdens down from time to time. And it might help just to know that you have folks like us out here who are sending you love through whatever life throws at you, even of there’s no direct communication. That’s part of the beauty of our extended blog family.

(And I’m sending you lots of love right now!)

    I can relate.

I hope that you don’t shut it down. I can understand if you do.

LOKI. I’m seeing this happen to lots of people who are constantly working on depressing subjects. I second break taking. One thing you could do is more cuts and links to other NOLA bloggers. This would do two things, increase their readership and give you a break. And do some fun stuff for you too. Music goofy stuff might be fun to write about with out sucking you into the pain. (but then it might be a different kind of pain!)

    Be well.
    LLAP,
    Spocko
P.S. I only have one group I like these days, “The Pipettes!” No rich musical heritage for me, so don’t expect ME to talk about music!

I can’t even imagine what that’s like or what you are going through. There is violence in every city, but what is happening for you is so magnified. The closest I came to experiencing this stuff directly is when my husband taught kids who were involved in this kind of gun violence (e.g. they often knew people who had been shot and/ or had been shot at themselves, or been victims or perpetrators of other types of violence). How do people pull together to stop this slide into chaos? Everywhere I look, I think I see too many barriers that stop people from working together on common solutions. I’d like to be able to focus on my self and my own life AND help others SIMULTANEOUSLY — so no one can say, “You’re so self-involved, you’re making this all about YOU”… We ALL have some selfish needs, obviously, but as a society we should have better scripts or models for how to meet those needs (without being a total GREED-head), and contributing to the common good. — Maybe someone should write a book about this and (selfishly) make some money doing it!

  8. Day 665: Blogging Out Loud : Maitri’s VatulBlog Says:

[...] Like Loki, I suffer from a bit of blog burn-out and have considered simply shutting VatulBlog down and restarting another space dedicated to Project Gutenberg, geophysics and other assorted geekiness.  The conversations here have been severely lacking since last fall really, and often it’s just me talking to a big electronic wall, while the real dialogue occurs over email and in real life.  The discussions are elsewhere and/or most of us are just fatigued.  Plus, what am I going to report that you don’t already know?  All levels of American government suck, the schools suck, crime is on the rise, everyone wants to take you for a ride and Americans are too wrapped up in their warp-speed lives to care.  Ho hum. [...]

Maitri’s post made me realize I hadn’t seen anything from you for a while, and upon further investigation it seems the Humid City feed is broken — or at least my reader say the XML is screwy and feedvalidator.org confirms it.

I realize this just adds to the burden but I thought you’d like to know.

Take care of yourself first and foremost. You rock!

    Hi Loki!

I’m a friend of Sarge’s and he and I would love to contact you! We are planning to be in the area from July 8-14, and would like to stay at a facility such as the TLC in Mississippi. We need such accomodations for the evenings of the 11th, 12th, and 13th. We’re coming out to help facilitate a 12 Step program geared to families, or really anyone who has survived Katrina, to help those who need it to heal emotionally and mentally, it’s called Katrina Survivors Family Groups!

Sarge can be reached at 1 602 391 1047 and I can be reached at prayforworldpeace@cox.net

    Thanks Loki!
    Pam
