Matt is indeed a god. I'll check with him to see if it's okay to post his email address.

I would encourage EVERYONE to attend the next meeting of this ridiculous committee. It will be on Monday, January 14th at 10 a.m. on the seventh floor of City Hall in the S&P office. Watch your government in action! See the nonchalant manner in which these bureaucrats approach issues like legal notice, due process, etc.! The way they act, you'd think they were trying to figure out what to have for lunch, instead of making decisions that will result in the permanent, irreversible loss of a historic building.

(disclaimer - there are actually a few great folks on this committee, but they're in the minority and their repeated efforts to correct the problems have been thwarted by the chair)

Paul, I'll try to get you on the list (I have no control over the list, but I do syndicate all of the emails I get from Matt here on HumidCity. His stuff is too important not to.)

Matt is truly a hero and a warrior. My deepest, sincerest respect!

I'm simply horrified.

Especially when I read stuff like "even if the city was raising the damage estimates simply to avoid review."

The City of New Orleans fudging damage reports so they could tear down more homes? That's just completely insane. I've always sworn I would live here 'til I die, but this is just madness. Is this a plan to create higher property values through eminent domain?
I have a hard time accepting such an organized plan from our local government. They had to wait for Bill Capo, at Six on Your Side, to tell them to fix pot holes for the Sugar Bowl & Mardi Gras crowds. Can the same City Hall actually have a plan or are these just bureaucratic idiots playing Tonka Truck with peoples' homes?

Thanks to all who kept (and keep) on top of this. One day, someone will get to point & say, "That's the house I grew up in", due to your efforts. Thanks again, for all of us.

I'll repeat what I said at ThinkNola:

Don’t know if it’s the same <a href="http://www.snopes.com/katrina/politics/carcrush.asp" rel="nofollow">DRC</a>.

Offhand, I’d say that it would take at least two of three factors to produce something like this.

1) Bureaucratic bumbling and indifference.

2) Corruption.

3) Unfathomable stupidity compounded by unbelievable arrogance.

On the last point, you have at least three colossal egos belong to major demolition proponents. Nagin, Blakely and Couhig all seem eager to bulldoze anything outside of a few rich or historic areas. Don’t know how much sway Couhig still has through his NORA position.
