A note to Miss Jenna;

I respect your opinion as to what is pleasing to the eye. This is the very nature of art.

I will agree with Loki, and my original statement here, that the issue of selective law enforcement is a dangerous one.
When members of the City Government deam Mr. Radtke's handiwork illegal, and the police REFUSE TO PROSECUTE we have a major problem.

Whatever you like to look at, or not look at, the job of the police is to enforce the law. Not to decide what that law is or who should obey it. Period. This is criminal activity, plain and simple. Your thoughts?

I think we will have to agree to disagree. owever, what we agree on or not aestheticaly has nothing to do with the letter of the law. My personal take on this is one of selective prosecution, what is your opinion on that aspect of the discussion?

Thanks for chiming in, it is not actually a discussion if only one side is represented.

I'm sorry, I disagree. Painting over tags discourages taggers. OK, if it's private property and you have painted a mural or something, that's one thing. But graffiti needs to be actively discouraged unless you want every building surface within reach of a person with a can of spray paint to be scribbled on. Look at pictures of NYC subways in the 70s. It's ugly and it shows disrespect for public property, by extension disrespect for the public (i.e., you and me). I visited Philadelphia in the 80s and people's homes -- occupied -- were scribbled all over. Yes, I prefer the plain gray blocks. Well, sandblasting the graffiti off would be better, but it's impractical as a quick fix. Also, garage sale fliers, band posters and lost dog notices really are litter. And it's especially wrong when people staple them to the oaks. I have called Fred R before and reported graffiti. I appreciate what he does.

As Dingler succintly points out, allowing this to occur opens the door for harassment of everyone who posts a garage sale flyer, band poster, or lost dog notice. If not, then it is selective enforcement and is (I hope) prosecutable in its own right.

This persecution Of Michael Dingler would be patently absurd, almost funny, if it weren't such a huge miscarriage of Justice. For the police to single him out for punishment, while supporting Radtke's illegal activities is simply mecenary enforcement, and illeagal in and of itself.

What to do: Call your City Council Member, Congressman, and write letters to the press. Make a loud and obvious noise about this treatment, not just of Rex Dingler, but of YOU, as a citizen of New Orleans. DO NOT ACCEPT THIS.
Selective law enforcement is a CRIME.

You can also call Fred Radtke's 'Operation Clean Sweep Hotline' at 504 486-9694. Please tell them what you think.
They answer live, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call them a lot. They need to know....
