Reagan on W: In Honor of the Presidential Visit

An actual quote that Reagan wrote about George “W” in his diaries, recently edited by author Doug Brinkley and published by Harper Collins

“A moment I’ve been dreading. George brought his n’er-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida; the one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I’ll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they’ll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work.”

From the REAGAN DIARIES——entry dated May 17, 1986.

EDIT: While I wish this were true, it turns out that it was just a prank by Michael Kinsley. The fact that it is so completely believeable speaks volumes, does it not? Hat Tip to Bayou St. John David for checking me on this.

The fact that George W. Bush ran the most pwoerful country on earth for eight long years is a lesson in failure that will be remembered throughout recorded history. Thanks to Ronald Reagen for a powerful footnote on this immense and terrifying disaster.

    Bingo for Bonzo!

  3. Kami Says:

Well well, ol’ Ronnie had his moments of clarity after all!

  4. bayoustjohndavid Says:

You are aware that Michael Kinsley wrote that as a joke, aren’t you?

  5. JAUG Says:

    i miss ron and nancy….

  6. Nancy Says:

” The fact that it is so completely believeable speaks volumes, does it not?”

    No.

The fact is that you have a prejudicial bias against Bush. You dont know the man personally. The only reason why you found this fictional quote to be “believable” is because it conforms to your prejudicial bias.

Lets take a racist, a vicious white supremacist, who thinks that the jews are sub human and holds up a copy of Mein Kampf as his proof.

Lets say one somehow manages to convince the racist that Mein Kampf is full of psychobabble, is a bunch of nonsense. But he still refuses to let go of his racist beliefs, and defending his mistake in believing in Mein Kampf by saying “The fact that it is so completely believeable speaks volumes, does it not?”

    Think about that.

  7. Loki Says:

Why Nancy, how kind f you to comment. Prejudice, no. Opinion based on research and personal observation, yes.

I would be willing to bet that you are not a New Orleanian, even the majority of republicans down here have had enough after the way that W failed to do anything except deliver empty promises in the wake of the disaster.

Here’s once good reason, and it is not a friend of a friend thing, it’s one of my best friends who watched it happen:

Bush comes dow n and gets filmed in front of a station that was handing out food during the aftermath. When he finished primping for the media he picked up ad left, taking the food station with him. One of my best friends was next in line, ask him how he feels about our dear president.

Your example is cute without actually being pertinent. Your average white supremacist does not have a public record of bungling and exceeding his authority like dear old GW does. Makes a bit of a difference. Guatanamo anyone? How about the economy? Or even better, since you decided to comment on a New Orleans blog about this, how about the Federal Levee failure and its aftermath?

    Go look at some facts:

I’m sorry, I have a hard time stomaching this sort of attitude and willful ignorance. My father spent years in a prison camp defending the country that W has been destroying.

    Think about that.

  8. JAUG Says:

So Loki - guess that means you’ll be voting for the war vet that spent 8 years in the Hanoi Hilton. At least he stood up and fought for our country, can’t say that about the last 2 presidents or the other 2 candidates.

I still can’t believe your stuck in the past - George W is out, maybe some energy needs to be put forth for the fight for the next four years instead of rehashing the past 8. It’s too late, let’s move on.

  9. Alexis Says:

    As to your comment JAUG:
    presumptive & insulting
If you have a cause, that is not the way to win people over.
Wow, you think you know people…

  10. Loki Says:

JAUG I would like to point out that while we were being submerged McCain was having photo ops with “W” over birthday cake…

  11. Loki Says:

BTW, JAUG, just so you know:

Trying to turn my father’s experience around to make it support for your own political views is in especially poor taste. You know very well that he is dead and that the surrounding circumstances are less than pleasant.

You don’t hear me showing disrespect to your deceased mother do you?

  12. Lord David Says:

Once again, we’re reduced to inter personal bashing.

Loki’s original post, whether the commentary came from Reagan, or someone pretending to be him, has been proved true by a systematic failure of the man to do his job, maitain any level of integrity, and involve himself with the betterment of his country.

Whoever’s parents did what, this guy is a blemish on the history of our country and no amount of metaphor will change that.

Comparing white supremacy to the failure of a president, or the comments of one, is simply inflamatory and a poor excuse for political dialouge. Why even bother. Just yell FIRE in the movie theater.

  13. JAUG Says:

I have nothing but the upmost respect for the men and women that fight for our rights, Please excuse me if I made it seem that I did not. What I meant and poorly said that it’s time to move on, as we look to a future president. Personally I would vote “None of the Above” and all 3 candidates scare the hell out of me.
