THE WOMAN WHO HATES NEW ORLEANS

This is THE GOLDEN GODDESS as she calls herself. She also claims to be a ‘RESIDENT GODDESS PIRATE.’” Let’s have a look, shall we?

Hmmm. I’m not convinced, and, having lived by Piracy much of my life, I think not.

Anyway, she has posted the following blog, which basically says that New Olreanians are not true Americans, that we suck because of how we suffered through Katrina. She calls what’s happening in Iowa reverse racism, because they’re white, and haven’t made ‘a big deal’.

Or something like that.

NEWS FLASH!

I live in New Orleans and I’m just one of about a hundred thousand white people here. That’s not the point anyway, but let’s watch her find it on a map. She lives, or ‘Goddesses’, in Tampa, so I’m sure she’s an expert on New Orleans & Iowa.

Anyway, she doesn’t seem to take into account that our situation here was decidedly different than A Flood. Leevees built by the US Government failed, they knew they would fail and did nothing. Nobody showed up for a week while over 1300 people died in the streets, attics and by drowning.

The President, instead of flying back from Paris, ate birthday cake with JohnMcCain (he’s got the Goddess Vote!) while people were dying in the Superdome.

I recently discussed all of this here on HumidCity, in a blog about what Lord David thinks of New Orleans. I won’t repeat it now. You’ll have to look it up, I guess. If you think it’ll help. Anyway…

She thinks that people will be back to work there within two weeks. We weren’t allowed back to our city for six weeks, Bumpkinette. This wasn’t a sandbag issue. 80% of a major city was under water for a fucking month. I could go on and on about the differences, like farm towns versus inner city, etc.
But I won’t. I think she appears quite ignorant without my help.

PLEASE: read her post for yourself.

Tell the Golden Goddess what you think. If you live in New Orleans or love the city, tell her in, as the mayor says, ‘french’. Let her know how it feels to be called UnAmerican because your life got washed away.

Before I go let me say that my heart goes out to those flood victims. It’s a horrible, horrible thing to go through. And Golden Goddess is not one of them. She’s a know-it-all Goddess Resident Pirate in Tampa, Florida who just seriously dissed my town.

Come back for one of those Pirate Conventions honey. Every bartender in the city will be waiting to piss in your drink.

Her Post:

As you watch the flooding in the Midwest? Have you noticed that there are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen liquor over their heads.

There’s no looting or yelling ‘Where’s Bush?’, ‘Where’s FEMA?, Where’s my check?’, or ‘Why isn’t the Gov’t out here saving me and my farm?’

Likewise, I’ve also noticed there are no reports of any other country coming to help or sending aid.

And this

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowaand helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a ‘vanilla’ Iowa, because that’s the way God wants it?

Where are all of the gangs taking law into their own hands?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people (read liberals, progressives and other way out left wingers) declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

Where are the debit cards for Iowans?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

Because these people are responsible and will take care of themselves . . . like others need to learn to do. These are the Americans who understand that help begins at home. God bless them and let’s help them.

They are true Americans!

So sayeth the Golden Goddess via myspace:

“The Golden Goddess apologetic for inadvertently offending people by reposting someone else’s bulletin. I was wrong to have done so and accept the consequenses. ”

    Inadvertently?

I’m guessing this turdful missive was one of those idiotic emails that go around and round, and that GG decided to post it, wherever you found it.

My blood pressure situation keeps me from reading too much of this kind of stuff. I will be double dosing tonight.

I do agree with one sentiment in this “bulletin.” We are not “Americans.” at least not in the current, uglier sense of the word. For details on this concept, track down a copy of the Mike West CD, “Home,” and listen to the first track. It says it all, and Mike wrote this song way before the big storm.

I believe the idea of secession should be taken very seriously at this point. I don’t believe New Orleans is wanted in the Union, and if we were suddenly able to use and profit from our own assets and resources for our own beneft, we’d be a helluva a lot better off. So sez me.

Interestingly, some moron from Flat Rock (wherever that is) sent a similar letter to the “Blue Ridge News” to which I have replied. I say similar in that it’s almost exactly this moron’s post. The only things comparable between what happened in Iowa and in New Orleans are that a) it is a tragedy, b) there was water involved and c) the Army Corps of Engineers failed to do their job. Other than that there are no comparisons. Also, Rush Limbaugh is a dickhead.

  4. Grant Cooper Says:

    As a New Orleanian, here’s my response…

10 Differences between Iowa and Louisiana:

    1. Iowa is mostly white. 2000 Resident Census: White: 93.9%; Black: 2.1%; American Indian: 0.3%; Asian: 1.3%; Other race: 1.3%; Two or more races: 1.1%; Hispanic/Latino: 2.8%.
    2. Every four years their *ss has to be kissed in the primaries if you want to be President, despite the fact that they represent approximately 1% of the U.S. population.
    3. Their corn fields bleed enough fertilizers into the Mississippi River every year to create a huge Dead Zone in the Gulf causing billions in damages to our seafood industry they will never repay us, all so they can make a ton of money selling corn to the world, much of which is paid for by our tax dollars.
    4. They get full profits from their corn while our oil & gas reserves are basically stolen from us and we get a few crumbs in return from the mega oil corporations.
    5. “No people walking the streets” … Give me a break. Iowa’s Top 10 cities have a combined population lower than the Greater N.O. pre-storm metro area.
    6. New Orleans gets dumped on by the media every time… We’re too black, too Cajun, too Poor, too Southern (every time Anderson Cooper sets up a camera in New Orleans, you’d think the whole city was centered in the 9th Ward).
    7. “No people sitting on the tops of their houses waiting on the government to come and get them” Oh, I see, maybe they should have drowned while Bush & Rove planned out how to make Blanco look weak over who had “authority” (supposedly Karl Rove’s Master Plan to make Bush look good by stonewalling Blanco). Fortunately brave soldiers from all over the U.S. (including Iowa), cared about those people on the rooftops, who, by the way, included my niece.
    8. The OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of New Orleanians & the entire area evacuated. The Iowa Floods drove “tens of thousands” from their homes… a little different from the 1.2 MILLION (THE LARGEST EVACUATION IN AMERICAN HISTORY) who left due to Katrina. Most who did not leave had no cars and trucks like I (& Iowans) do, no credit cards for hotel rooms like I (& Iowans) do, no family in another city like I (& Iowans) do, etc.
    9. “No Iowans bitching about how the government and George Bush is failing them.” (P.S. - Glad somebody likes Bush so much… I always wondered who those 23% of Americans who love Bush were… They can vote for McCain this Fall so we can get 4 more years, that only leaves 96 more years of Iraq and Halliburton profits paid for by us taxpayers … Hey, by then, the Cheney & Bush Family Estates (Saudi subsidiaries) may pass Bill Gates in personal wealth. Here’s an excerpt from an article: “Hurricane Katrina was a disaster not only for residents of Louisiana and Mississippi but for the White House as well. President Bush, reluctant to interrupt his month-long vacation at his ranch in Crawford, Texas (note: Most vacations of any president U.S. history), did not set foot in New Orleans until five days after the hurricane hit. And his upbeat tone — “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job!”
    10. FEMA took precious days to get aid to New Orleans after Katrina, thanks to their wonderful super-effective Bush appointee Brown… Here’s what happened in Iowa: “The Federal Emergency Management Agency, better known as FEMA, which provided a lackluster response following Hurricane Katrina, was already on the ground in Iowa because of earlier tornadoes. Likewise, disaster relief organizations, such as the Red Cross, worked both before and following the flood to provide assistance.”

I could go on and on, and maybe all of these points I brought up aren’t 100% valid. I have nothing personally against Iowa, but I’m sick and tired of negative cutting us down. We’re not perfect, and everybody admits much was learned from what most fair observers admit was a “failed” Katrina response from the top on down, but those who think Iowa is great and Louisiana sucks should move. I hear the Iowa Hawkeyes may improve on their tie for 5th place in the Big 10 this year.

  5. Mid City Rising Says:

I agree with you, Grant, and am tired of New Orleans being perpetually given the role of The Can in the national game of Kick the Can that happens with every disaster. There is no comparison in one other way, too. Iowans should KNOW better. That land floods regularly, as does Missouri and Indiana. New Orleans had never experienced a flood of that magnitude, EVER. Even during Betsy it was just the Lower 9. And yet we are criticized for not seeing the writing on the wall and told not to rebuild.

I‘ve been reading up on this – those guys have millions of acres of the country’s most important farmland, and one of its largest malls, protected by levees that routinely cause flooding. Yet no one suggests they relocate or give up.

And for those of you who think New Orleans does nothing but take and beg, (Goddess, are you listening?) consider this. Despite the fact that large portions of New Orleans remain unrecovered, even though thousands of citizen activists have done more, in less time, than any other recovery on record (yes, our recover IS citizen based – both locals and volunteers), members of the Lakeview Beacon of Hope (a resource agency) and other civic and faith-based organizations in New Orleans have collected money and boarded busses and are heading to - what? A party? A free-food mart? A hotel that takes FEMA vouchers?

NO. They are headed to IOWA, where they will lend their skills to help Iowans get through this mess. They left their own neighborhoods, still ruined in places (Lakeview is only 52% recovered) to go help others. If Bush is an American, then that was damned unAmerican of them and I am proud of it.

One more thing – Grant and Lord, it’s not just ignorant bloggers (who probably are NOT headed to Iowa right now) that are perpetuating this myth. If you want to see something that will REALLY boil your blood, check out this article from Stu, a Philadelphia reporter, who apparently caught Rob Couhig and Garland Robinette on bad days (both have denied uttering the words for which they were paraphrased).

    http://www.philly.com/dailynews/columnists/stu_bykofsky/20080623_Stu_Bykofsky__Flooded_Midwest_getting_fixed_faster_than_the__city_that_forgot_to_care_.html

On the one hand, he blames the problem on the failure of government at all levels. On the other, he implies, again, that we are greedy ne’er do wells. (p.s. Do we HAVE some greedy ne’er do wells and criminals? Unfortunately yes, because our climate makes it easy to live here year round with little cover and because our people tend to be very tolerant and helpful of those in need. Other cities “don’t tolerate it” – which means they make it so uncomfortable that the homeless leave. They certainly don’t buy them houses and give them jobs.

One responding blogger who replied, referring to the reporter’s twisting of our motto “The City that Care Forgot” into “The City that Forgot to Care,” suggested we should change it to “The City that Cares, and was Forgotten.” I agree.

She can’t read or follow instructions very well, either, as the sign below her left hand clearly states “Do Not Touch” along with a sign for the English-impaired.

Oh, and there was no cake eaten because, to add to the irony, the whole McCain-Bush thing was a photo op through and through with the cake a cardboard fake.

  7. mardi claw Says:

while bartending and listening to my peanut gallery, (uptowners with attitude) and locals, (kids from the ninth ward) and just in general, here are the comments I heard while we watched this unfold on tv.
Peanut Gallery… “and we should rebuild this flood zone?”
Ninth Ward… “you call THAT a flood?”
    and in general….
Interesting how FEMA learned lessons after Katrina that are helping them help Iowa…

yes I heard it in a bar… during lunch hour.

  8. mardi claw Says:

according to the folks from Illinois, fema was no where to be found, and has no intentions of helping them. They lost everything….

All eyes on Iowa, so why the special treatment? a flood is a flood, no matter where it is… Just like during Katrina, the news decides what you should see, and those who watch the news and BELIEVE what they see? well…. there is so much they choose not to show us, be it flooding, natural disasters, or election coverage. To know the truth is simply to stop watching TV and stop letting television decide what goes on in the world. Open your eyes…

    Reality News…. right?

  9. Loki Says:

We should look to the local bloggers up there. They are in the same state we were in a few days after our disaster.

  10. Lord David Says:

The ‘Golden Goddess’ sent me a personal apology, which I take as completley genuine. I also noted that she is also reposting my bulletins (on myspace) directing volunteers and contributers to Loki’s Iowa Bound coalition, unsolicited.

She asked me to not repost her remarks or direct any further attention her way, as she wished to get past this and do some good. I’ll gladly honor that request now.

Next time you’re here, honey, I’ll buy the first round.
It takes real heart to turn around.

  11. Loki Says:

    Agreed.

FYI: Its not my Iowa bound group, I’m just helping spread the word.
