A “pyrate” faux pas escalates into a very interesting exchange between people who go “Aaaaarr!” HumidCity’s own Lord David leads the boarding party. (You’ve got to read the comments!)

    I’d have posted sooner, but I had no idea this dispute was goin on, I have been busy elsewhere. Nothing irritates me more than untrue rumor mongering & people tryin to pee on everyone elses parade, and dare I say that MY legitimacy in relation to Pyratecon has been questioned as well so here goes…..fasten your seatbelts, boys n girls…it’s gonna be a bumpy ride!!

    I am the NOLA liasion to Pyratecon 08 & 09 event promotor..Posting in the hope of Offering indisputable PROOF that the ONLY event Promotor of the OFFICIAL Pyratecon 08/09 (& the future cons) happens to be Andre V.

    I live IN New Orleans, I am a respected business owner & very active part of this community.
    I am a board member of the French Quarter Business Womens Network, the Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Fan Club, and the New Orleans Krewe Of Pirate Wenches.
    I also do work with & for St. Judes Community Center , Blain Kern’s Krewe Of Boo & Blains annual Haunted House at Mardi-Gras world, BORN Organization, Dirty Linen, as well as many other local events too many to list here.
    I bring my standing in this community, the businesses, people & organizations I am affiliated with as Proof of the truth in my statements here to you.
    I offer my affiliations with the reputiable business’ & people here in New Orleans that were a part of Pyratecon 08 & will be in 09, such as The Funky Pirate, & Owner Pam Fortner, Smugglers, and it’s affiliates, Beer Fest on Bourbon & Claudia & the Hobbnobbers Bar & Grill, to name a few.

    I do not want to get into a pissin match, but I DO challenge anyone to dispute the actual FACTS which are this:

    I have been involved in the planning & production of Pyratecon 08, and am involved in 09 events as well, and I AM the Official NOLA liasion to Pyratecon 08/09 & future cons here. I can truthfully say that Andre & his staff are THE ONLY event promotors of Pyratecon 08 & 09…and beyond. The website pyratecon.com is the ONLY Official Pyratecon event site. The pyratecon company is held by Andre, and no one else.

    Andre & his crew produced an event of epic proportions here in April 08, and will continue to do so. Each year we learn from mistakes made, and take all of your input into consideration to bring a better convention in the future. Pyratecon is still new & still growing & learning, but with the help of the true people that want to see this event succeed, we will be bigger & better in no time.

    I offer you our legitimacy through our website, e-mail contact, my personal word & reputation, and through our past & future sponsors/vendors to name a few:

    Pirates Alley Cafe/The Tropical Isle & The Funky Pirate/Pirates Alley Trading Company/The French Market Restaurant/Smugglers Bar & Grill/ Hobbnobbers Bar & grill/The Steamboat Natchez/Haunted History Tours/Wicked Orleans/Roadkill/…I could go ON & On, here….

    This year we are happy to announce that GALZERS, THE liquor distrubutor here in Southeast Louisiana has joind forces with Pyratecon 09 to make this an even better event than before. Those here in NOLA know how HUGE that is to us, as they sponsor every large event we have locally here, and to have their support for Pyratecon 09 means the WORLD to us!!! Thank you Frank!!!!

    Mitch Toles is fabricating all he writes here, as he was NOT even IN New Orleans in April 17-19th, at Pyratecon 08, and was not involved in anyway in producing this past event, nor will he be involved in future Pyratecon events.

    TO MITCH…..,where were you? I have not personally seen you since September 2007, at Pirates Alley Wench Event…..I did not see you In New Orleans at the Convention, I did not see you sign & pay for the contracts, we had with our vendors, sponsors or attendees, I did not see you send out the tickets to the event, nor did I see you at the booths, or main tables, I did not see you at our charitable auctions, I did not see you get the Mayoral Pirate Proclamation, I did not see you at the meeting with NOPD, I did not see you or have ANY contact with you at all, and I still don’t. As the person IN NOLA doing legwork, I do NOT report to you either. So tell us all again how YOU, pulled off Pyratecon 08 & are doing the producing of pyratecon 09……???
    FOOTNOTE***..the myspace site is Andre’s as well as the official website pyratecon.com…NOT Mitch’s sites at all. Period. End of discussion.

    To La Contessa De Nouvelle Orlean…..Addressing the issues you have raised:
    Mr.Kern was not contacted about the Pirate Parade, nor to my knowledge, did he contact us. I and my family do several volunteer events for Mr Kern, and would ask that you get the FACTS before you go on internet rants, you can’t believe every “story” you hear, dear.
    As for the Pirate Feast, which was included into the price of the Pyratecon convention entrance fee…Yes the venue was full, & the menu was just Jambalaya, salad & Rum Cake. First, realize that for $10.00 a head (the agreed upon price, without tax & Gratituity), you got what you paid for. If we chose a better meal, it would have raised your entrance fee considerably, and that is not our goal.
    If the staggered seating plan we envisioned were observed, things would have been much smoother & not so crowded. And the icing on the Rum Cake, as it were, is the fact that MORE pirates than were ever expected sailed to NOLA for the convention, AND the local Pirates came out IN FORCE & our numbers severly exceded our expectations, which we will in NO way apologize for, as that is a GOOD thing. Do you live here, as you alure to in your posts here?, I would love to help clear up any other concerns or problems you might have with Pyratecon over a nice cold Abita, feel free to contact me at anytime!

    To Morgan Maurauder:
    Exactly What monies not going where do you speak of, and I have to ask where is your Proof of these vague rumors? The Monies from the Auctions DID go to the Charites they were intended, and will do so again this year. Take a Look at the nolawench myspace site for actual PROOF in writing from the Charity itself.
    To My knowledge all involved that were CONTRACTED for payment have been PAID IN FULL, again…I ask for your proof to your statement. If you just happen to know of anyone that hasn’t been paid for services rendered to pyratecon 08, as you state, kindly ask them to reply to Andre at Pyratecon.com, as we would want this matter cleared up as much as they would. This refers to the year 08 only, as the producers of 07 were diferent & had seperate contractual obligations entirely.

    TO Anon…Your concerns are legitimate, and we do see your point of view, especially after the issues most had with P-con 07, and the previous organizer/producer. They are no longer affiliated with this event.

    Rest assured, lessons are learned from past experiances, and things have moved on in a better direction with the new event producer, Andre, and his staff of a Very few loyal hardworking folks.
    Pyratecon is committed to this City, and aspires to involve the WHOLE of New Orleans, (and the world) in this event, and by bringing the local pirates into the planning process, we can ALL help to plan what we know can be the biggest best party in the world, because NO ONE throws a party like WE do!! yeah U rite!
    These people, the current Producers & staff of Of Pyratecon have no other agenda than to produce an event that is fun & affordable for ALL, Historical, Piratical & Profitable to The City of New Olreans, her residents & her Recovery, a few charities as well as the vendors, sponsors, and advertisers that support the event.

    I ask that all that attended this years convention in one way or another, to take a look overall at the weekend, and think about all the hard work that went into planning, let alone executing an event that turned out to be double the size of the first one a year prior, and truly numbers no one expected……and keep in mind most of this work was done from Three thousand miles away, with people that don’t exactly know the in’s & out’s of NOLA and what we Can offer an event thats held here. Never fear, we as residents will not let them down this time, we will help to make this the best yet! And please do remember who DID give you Pyratecon 08….Overall….good bad or Ugly, it WAS the event it was promised to be.

    TO LORD DAVID, LOKI, SHARLY, MARDI_CLAW & LAFITTE….I whole heartedly agree the NOLA pirate ring needs to re-organize, band together & make this the best local event ever. We need to bring the History of our City alive, and Pyratecon 09’s theme this year is Ghostly Pirates, with a Lafitte bent. We welcome any ideas & greatly appreciate all your ideas & help in the future events, not only for pyratecon, but the Pirates Of NO, one & all. I would personally like to thank David, Sharly & Loki for their efforts on the Pyrates way Posting Debacle, and for bringing it to our collective attention. I am, as always, at your service.

    If there are any more dsiputes about whom runs Pyratecon.com & the Convention, I challenge you , the disputer, to provide actual PROOF that you are affiliated with the convention, what YOU have actually Produced……and not just blind postings on internet sites!

    Please take a lesson from the Pyrates Way Nasty Posting debacle of late, NOLA and her PROUD American Citizens do NOT take kindly to Liars or Rumor Mongers. We’ve been through quite enough, thank you…so GAME ON!!

    Now, May we all stop wasting our valuable time on all this he-said/she-said crap, Get a drink & a po’boy, come together, be friends, and get back to the business of planning a better event for this year??!!

Anyone can post on a site from miles away & claim whatever they may choose to, but I stand HERE BEFORE you & will at anytime nessessary to lay these false claims to REST once & for ALL.

    been workin on these in my studio with a few friends… wondering about what will go down this week… Andre is in town, talk like a pirate day is upon us, and halloweens pirate parade in the bywater is planned..

    from the grumblings reaching me from afar, and those who don’t live here but do speak with me on a regular basis, lets get the con, out of piratecon…

    I will have to miss my proposed appearance at PirateCon. Paying business calls me to NYC for ten days. Of course with this thread topped out at over a hundred comments so far I have a feeling I will hear about all the drama….
