those commenters remind me of that old line from Sophie Tucker, the power went off in the theater as a a troupe of dwarves were finishing their act. In the chaos that ensued her voice suddenly broke through with “Somebody help me, I’m up to my ass in midgets!”

I’m in the process of evacuee-proofing my house this week (much like hurricane-proofing, except it involves stocking spare bathrooms with towels, placing clean sheets on the beds in the guest bedrooms, strategically placing litter boxes, pulling extra chairs around the dining room table, stocking up on every form of alcohol imaginable - I hope to find some Chartreuse somewhere around here! - and otherwise trying to make the place as homey as possible for however many stressed out people and cats wind up with me).

My thoughts are with y’all, and if things DO get bad, I WILL be posting updates!

Whatever the vote, whoever you you sleep with, we are all human beings; except perhaps for those who would toss another human on the fire or into the flood to serve their “party platform.” The sacrifice of another human being for one’s own means is the act of a terrorist, a monster, a heartless bastard not worthy of the gift of life & liberty.

This is not an episode of The Hills, or American Idol, wherein people vote for their latest fucking celebrity worship. A storm of even medium magnitude hitting ANYWHERE on the gulf coast is likely to take life, perhaps that of a child.

If that’s something one would advocate, to control taxes and fiscal spending, well, perhaps the surviving family would like a personal sit down with the son of a bitch. I know I would.

And what do these assholes, left and religious right, have in common, pray tell? They are so intent on proving that they are CORRECT in whatever it is they rail on for or against that they would happily sacrifice strangers JUST TO PROVE A POINT. However, if their family members were in danger, or their loved ones, or whatever they “care” about - if such as they can be said to care - you’d hear a vastly different tune.

The religious right would say their god was testing them like it tested Job, to much moaning and gnashing of teeth. The left would, apparently, wish it on whoever was conveniently located to make a political point to blame the right (religious or not), to much moaning and gnashing of teeth.

It becomes more and more evident that everything is vaguely circular. Far left and far right are interchangeable - Socialist, Communist, and Fascist dine together on the bones of a stricken society until they starve.

1) The diarist lives in New Orleans and first part was a sarcastic jab at a different diarist hoping for political consequences from the hurricane

and 2) I’d say the comments were a good mix of asshole political opportunists and others smacking the shit out of said opportunists.

However, I did not go back and read the original diary which was satirized there. Didn’t want to stomach that.
