Thanks for the kind words! I have to say though, sometimes your subjects tell the story themselves and with this story, that was certainly the case. Here is a link to the story in question: http://americancity.org/daily/entry/1733/
The piece online has been revised to reflect the critique and responses printed above. In addition to adding in hyperlinks to all the points Ross questioned, my editor and I decided to add in a few more clarifying details about Blakely's departure and the email scandal.
We also decided to remove the paragraph about the Chevron sale after my editor voiced concerns about my assertion that the mayor had made the decision to purchase the building in "apparent isolation." After consideration, I came to agree with her that a more thorough reporting of the process leading to the city's letter of intent to buy the building was necessary in order to back the statement. When things clear up a bit, I hope to return to the issue and do that more through reporting.

There are times that I am proud of certain human beings. This is one of those times. Well done, Ariella!

As for the Nagin Administration, they are notorious for ignoring the media. Since Katrina, I have phoned and e-mailed the mayor's office numerous times only to be ignored. I chalked it up to the fact that since I wasn't a part of the Big News Media, I was beneath their notice. On reflection, seeing how they regularly dismiss requests from WWL, WDSU and other BNM outlets, it has become painfully clear that the Nagin administration has contempt for anyone who questions their authority.

Mr Ross' response is eerily reminiscent of the Bush administration's tactics of ignoring the facts and blatantly lying in order to disinform the public. And we all know how well that works.

But then perhaps I'm being too cynical. Maybe my e-mails went unanswered because Mayor Nagin's "Phantom Deleter" got to them before hizzoner…
