As someone stuck on the road for 16 hours during Gustav I cannot say I am impressed. Especialy when that time was used to make what is normally a four hour drive.

I must say, however, that while he’s patting himself on the back for the claim that “Evacuation orders were issued early by state and local authorities”, having Warren Reilly howling into the radio that “anyone found the street WILL be arrested” is hardly the humanitarian upgrade that we needed during such emergency proceedures.

The Mother Of All Storms didn’t have to be preceeded by the Crying Of The Biggest Jackass, now did it? These guys are just not any good at this. None of them. Period.

Funny you should ask…

There are reports that Chertoff would visit Louisiana soon after the storm, but I could find no actual dates and there was no mention that he would go to New Orleans. If he came at all I’m guessing he stopped in Baton Rouge, but as far as I can tell, Atlanta was as close as he got.

He did eventually make it here at the end of August in 2008 to oversee storm-prep for Gustav, visiting Houma, New Orleans and Baton Rouge where he pressed the flesh and posed for photo-ops with Governor Jindal.

To learn more about Michael Chertoff, visit your local library and ask for “Select Speeches” by Mr. Chertoff. Of course, they probably don’t have a copy of the 315 page book. They were mostly given to DHS employees who worked for Chertoff, but that makes sense since the DHS themselves printed the books at a cost of $11,000 taxpayer dollars.

And just ‘when’ did Cherthoff finally get his (assumedly) sallow and saggy posterior to New Orleans to actually put boots on the ground? At least a week later – as of Sept 4, 2005 he was ‘going to head to New Orleans’. (I’ve been looking for a report of when he finally was there, not succeeding)
