FYI: Belichick is 3-0 vs the Saints. It is Sean Payton’s first game vs the Pats. The Pats lead the series 8-3.

Whoops, my bad, one more historical tidbit… The New Orleans Saints are the First team in NFL History to start 10-0. Put that in your bong and smoke it!

Congratulations Saint, you rock!

Aside from the first ever 10-0 start in Saints History, there were no other milestones achieved this week. Drew Brees inched closer to 2nd place all-time in touchdowns. He’s just 6 away from Archie Manning’s 115. The only other inching was done by Marques Colston who needs just nine receptions to take 6th place all-time from Hoby Brenner and 72 more yards to move past Quinn Early in 5th place for all-time receiving yards.

Next monday is gonna be wild!

Wow, that 48-22 stomping we handed you guys in week two must still sting. Or is that the pain of riding the bench behind Donovan? Don’t worry Kev, McNabb is anient and brittle; your day will come again!

Of course, you are right about there being only one Steeler Superbowl here in the Big Easy. As for the “best” ‘Bowl played here, that’s a matter for debate.

The Steelers have only played one Super Bowl here (1975), and it wasn’t the best Super Bowl played here. That would be the Rams and the Patriots (2002).

Hmmm… bet they’re spluttering even more after the drubbing GB gave the ‘girls. But enough about pretenders, on with the history lesson!

Only one move in the stats this week and it’s not a pretty one. Drew Brees’ two INTs moved him into a 5th place career tie with Dave Wilson at 55. Blecch, but I saw it coming. On a positive note, his two TD’s moved him closer to the number-two all-time spot. Both Colston and Bush grabbed two passes inching them slightly closer to a new spot in career receptions.

We’ll see if anything happens next week as the 9-0 Saints meet Tampa Bay in the first of two meetings this season. New Orleans leads the series 20-14 including an 8-6 advantage in the Bucs house although the Saints have lost 3 of the last 4 meetings in Tampa.

The guys at my work are giving me sheeyat b/c they are Cowgirls, er ‘boys’ fans. I responded to their razzing/taunting by saying “We’re 8-0, when did y’all lose your first game????” They spluttered and mumbled and left.

Sports Illustrated’s bonehead emeritus Peter King has dealt a deathknell blow to the Saints by Crowning them the top Superbowl contender in his midseason report, due out tomorrow. While this looks like praise it is actually a death sentence as Peter King knows absolutely nothing about professional football. I give you this quote: “Colts 44, Saints 37. My advice: Score your tickets now. It’s going to be one of the best Super Bowls ever. And the zaniest.” That was Kings take for SB XLII, held Feb. 3, 2008. You may remember the Giants beating New England in that one.
