There are times when the latest news of Jihad, police corruption, gang violence, general hate and selfishness, begin to overwhelm even one so hardened as myself.

At these times, I often stand in the center of my room, awash in music, arms spread out to the heavens, head back, deeply breathing in the cosmic marrow of life.

I begin to see myself, as if from above, standing there, filling my lungs, and push all other thoughts and mental pictures away. Still your mind and the Truth will come…

Soon the image I hold draws further back to see my building, my block, the city, continent & planet. I see the Earth, a blue ball, spinning the through the cosmos, with millions of specks, much like myself, standing on the surface like mad surfing insects, riding their host as it hurtles through space.

The Earth itself then becomes a mere pinprick next to the gargantuan size of Jupiter, which is then dwarfed by our Sun. The sun we know becomes a pinprick against immense planets that spin around stars so big they would swallow our entire solar system.

These formations spread for hundreds of billions of light years in every direction, beyond the concept we call infinity.

Now seriously, folks, in the midst of all that, is it really possible that there is a Supreme Being who chooses to speak only through one human being, the Official Prophet, for all eternity? That one person’s life and ego are more important than another’s? That this tiniest of blips in the history of our planet alone, the history of human kind, is so important that we would decimate our world, and each other?

I think not.

I think that it’s high time (bad choice of words perhaps) we took it upon ourselves to make this work, this humanity experiment, by standing together in the face of religious fanaticism, racial division, violence and class driven greed. It’s time to awaken.

Perhaps there is a Supreme Being, and if so, perhaps for a tiny sliver of a moment, we might cross their inbox.

The rest is up to us. To act in a manner befitting our self image as the Prime Life Form in the Universe.

As things stand right now, when I wonder if there is intelligent life in the Universe, the only thing I know for sure is this:

It certainly isn’t us.
Root for the Home Team, kids.
That’s Humans, to anyone out there listening.
We’re all in this together.

Many times I’ve had to be reminded of exactly how an incompetent like Eddie Jordan got to be the District Attorney of New Orleans. If an exact moment had to be culled from time, it would be his conviction of Edwin Edwards, which pushed him in to our collective consciuosness as a Law & Order type of guy.

The reality is that he did this under the guidance of ‘Dollar’ Bill Jefferson, himself a corrupt politician. Has it occurred to anyone else that Jefferson probably knew about every shady deal Edwards was in on and passed selective information, and evidentuary map if you will, on to Jordan? That Jefferson’s own dirty hands allowed him to know and selectively communicate Edwards dirty little deals? We’ll never really know.

Today we have to worry about the criminal justice system of Orleans Parish getting shut down due to the racist policies of Mister Jordan. While William Jefferson cries foul, insists the FBI persecutes him for his race, Jordan has been allowed to walk away from millions of dollars worth of court ordered settlement to those whose careers he ruined out of racial hate. And guess who picks up the bill…

We recently had another peoples victory in the ousting of Charlie Foti, who, rather than destroy the lives of about 70 members of the DA’s office, singled out Dr. Pau as a murderess, arrested her in her home & transported her IN CHAINS to Orleans parish for arraignment, after agreeing to let her present herself the next day. He then went on international TV and announced that she was a killer. Not someone accused of a crime, innocent until proven guilty, but A KILLER.

Now vindicated, of course, but her career is ruined beyond measure. Thanks Charlie.

The point is, we have election run-offs, a temporary DA, and a battle for the deciding swing vote seat on the City Council, all hanging in the balance, and in the not-too-distant future. Whatcha gonna do?

It’s time we stop blaming idiots for being idiots. It’s much harder to get them out of office than it is to prevent them from getting in. Or so it would seem.

These horrors do not visit themselves on us by accident.

These choices do not go away because we ignore them.

If we choose not to be involved, they are made for us. And we have no room to gripe or complain when another idiot takes the money, fires everyone but his friends, crucifies a healthgiver for headlines, makes deals with corporate gambling, etc. We’ll have no one to blame but ourselves.

It’s time to listen carefully, New Orleans. Long have we cried about change, FEMA, what was done to us and so on. Now it’s time to do it for ourselves. Again. The Monsters are getting dragged into the light of day, and the future lies in the balance. Open your ears and hear what is really being said. When Jacqui Clarkson tells you that bringing big business and conventions to New Orleans, rather than helping small business that is already here is the way to go, what does that mean? That more money will go out of state, to the City coffers, and raise real estate prices, a business that she has been in for thirty years? That a ‘better New Orleans’ is one without Tuba Fats, Kermit Ruffins, etc. allowed to play music in Jackson Square? That ‘looking out for you’ means taking all the benches out of Jackson Square without the permission of the Historical Society or the City Council itself?

The Ghost of Eddie Jordan looms large, my fellow New Orleanians. It will change like a Scooby Doo cartoon and rise up again and again, until we finally take back our city. These people do NOT have your best interests at heart. A City Council member with a deciding vote, steeped in the real estate development business? You gots to be kidding, man. Except this is no joke. This is a rich & powerful person, trying to make the City, and those who live here, pawns in her vision of “what New Orleans should be.” I don’t know about you, but I rather like the people here just the way they are. I just wish they’d pay attention the Ghosts Yet To Come.

Hollywood: Heiress, Pussy Hilton, granddaughter of cryogenically frozen Paris Hilton, best known as the Death Tax Princess for her refusal to ever die, has pled “No Contest” to charges that she beat another of her ’servants for life’ to death, during a cocaine frenzy & tantrum. She received a suspended five day sentence and has entered rehab for the entire afternoon.

Washington: George W. the Third, Emperor For Life of the United States and head of the Republicans For God party, has revamped the Patriot/Traitor Act yet again. His new Peace Brigade now has the power to enter any place of business, worship or dwelling at will, and arrest anyone at anytime under the Sneaking Suspicion Act, hold suspects indefinitely and without counsel, and shoot to kill on grounds of Suspected Resistance. Naysayers of this giant step for freedom were unavailable for comment.

New Orleans: The Army Corps of Engineers has announced that the pumps in the City of New Orleans may be fully operational by the end of this year’s Hurricane Season. The levee repairs started after Katrina (2005) should be completed within five years, assuming the walls around the gated Haliburton Village, America’s most expensive neighborhood, are finished. Blackwater USA was again uncontested in their application for security there. Located in what used to be the Lower Ninth Ward, these estate homes and golf course represent the highest concentration of politicians and oil barons in the USA and “deserve protection from the Great Unwashed”, according to White House spokesmen.

In The News: The Independent Islamic States of New York, Florida and Georgia once again held trials for any single men and women who attended last week’s Heresy Burnings without a chaperone. Defense counsel asked for torture and dismemberment instead of the televised burnings. This is believed to be a ploy to boost the sagging ratings during immoliation broadcasts, which have continued a downward trend since they began airing weekly. Follow-up programing to the torture shows, such as ‘Healing Back to Allah’, rate highly in the reality TV market.

In Georgia: The rash of arrests of women who appear without veils has fallen sharply, due largely to the Hot Iron Blindings, given mercifully by Clerics Of Study & Punishment, but other states, where science is still legal, say that this is due to the large number of people wearing welders helmets, as temperatures reach the low 120’s and UV rays once again burn the paint off older cars. Bucky ‘Haliburton’ Cheney, Energy Czar, has suggested a tax on these helmets, as well as the newer Fossil Fuel Free automobiles, saying that funding is needed to study the possibility that we are experiencing “Global Cooling”.

When asked his opinion, Michael Moore III spoke from the Sedition Section of Death Row, where he awaits execution for heresy and treason, saying only, “You’re fucking kidding me, right?”

A strong and eloquent voice within the community, David has been using his extensive email list to bring news and opinion to the people of NOLA. In the wake of his most recent guest post here he has decided to join the team as a regular contributor. His take no prisoners attitude will be a valued addition to our efforts in the fight for our city. Look for his posts in the near future!

We will also be adding new static pages to act as a repository for useful info/links, suggestions on what you would like to see are always welcome!
