The Krewe of O.A.K., an organization more secretive than the Masonic
hierarchy and more powerful than the Bilderbergers, will present this
year’s Midsummer Mardi Gras Parade and Ball on Saturday, August 27,
beginning at 8:30 PM at the Maple Leaf Bar. The event’s theme:
“Robusted in the Naked City”. The time and date of the event were
determined after consultations with astrophysicists from the Frechette
Institut de L’Astronomie Arcane.
The parade is free and open to all. The ball costs $ 20 and includes
music by George Porter Jr, Theresa Andersson and the Oak Street All
Stars, with access to free kegs of beer provided by Abita and Miller
Brewing Companies.
Noted local artist Frenchy is the reigning King. His Queen is Miss
Alexa Ballard, a physics scholar from a prominent Uptown family.
Trombone Shorty’s Brass Band will lead the Krewe as they parade
through the streets of Old Carrollton, with Rebirth Brass Band
anchoring the center of the parade. There are medical stops at the
Carrollton Station, Jimmy’s, Snake and Jake’s Beverage Emporium,
and Restaurant One. George Porter Jr. And Theresa Andersson will take
over the entertainment duties when the parade returns to the Maple
Leaf. The night’s schedule is as follows:
8:00 Meet up and “organize”
8:30 Entrance of the Royal Couple
8:45 Introduction by Emcee Fred Kasten, WWNO Deejay
9:00 Benediction and Blessing by Reverend Goat Carson
9:05 Brief words by King and Queen
9:15 Parade begins
The Krewe (K.O.A.K.), formed in 1985 and first parading in 1986, is a group of residents and business owners from the area encompassing the former town of Carrollton (now the 7th Municipal District of NewOrleans). It is well known for its charitable functions and social events. In other words its a damn good party!
