Band Together for Hurricane Katrina Benefit!

LAFAYETTE, LA – A variety of Lafayette-based organizations havebanded together and issued a call to the Acadiana community to jointhem for ‘Band Together,’ an outdoor concert set for Saturday,September 10 at 8 p.m. at Parc International in downtown Lafayette.Admission is a $5 suggested minimum donation and gates will open at7:30 p.m. All admission and concession proceeds will go DIRECTLY to theAmerican Red Cross.Band Together promises an evening of great live musical entertainmentand organizers are busy lining up artists.The Acadiana Arts Council (AAC), Louisiana Crossroads, LafayetteDowntown Development Authority / Downtown Lafayette Unlimited(DDA/DLU), Performing Arts Society of Acadiana (PASA), Louisiana FolkRoots and Festival International de Louisiane have come together toorganize the event and to issue a call for support of the gathering.

Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission (LCVC), Teche Drugs andSaul Sonnier Real Estate are corporate sponsors already committed tothe effort.’Artists and our community will turn September 10 into a great event,’says Buddy Palmer, executive director of the AAC. ‘The arts communityknows that if we band together, great things happen and we feltcompelled to do our part for our state and our fellow citizens. We hopeto raise at least $15,000 and all proceeds from the event will godirectly to the American Red Cross.”The weather forecast looks great for this event,’ says Gerald Breaux,director of the LCVC. ‘People can expect to have the same sort offestive good time that we always have at Parc International. Bringchairs or something comfortable to sit on. We’ll have refreshments onsale and hope to have a great time doing a great deed.’Just like with Festival International, and Downtown Alive! pets and ice chests should be left at home.

Concert site-The Acadiana Center for the Arts, also in downtown Lafayette, will still open its newest exhibit–“The Greatest Album Covers that NeverWere” September 10 during Artwalk, but the “Party like a Rock Star”opening party will be rescheduled to a later date.To offer support for Band Together or for more information, call theAcadiana Arts Council at (337) 233-7060
