Watch Those Polls!
I am passing along this message from the ACLU of La. because I believe that the history of corruption in New Orleans combined with the extreme irregularity of the current situation make this more neccessary than ever!
MESSAGE FROM ACLU OF LOUISIANA
Good afternoon everyone,
The ACLU of Louisiana, as a member of the LA Voting Rights Network, a coalition which includes both local and national civil rights organizations and advocacy groups, will participate in an unprecedented effort to monitor polling places throughout the city in order to protect the voting rights of every New Orleans voter.
The Louisiana Voting Rights Network is seeking volunteers to serve as election monitors during the upcoming April 22nd municipal elections in New Orleans.
Louisiana has some of the longest polling hours in the country. Polls open on Saturday, April 22nd at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
The Network seeks volunteers who are willing to serve for the duration of election day. Alternatively, volunteers may serve during Shift 1 (between 6 a.m. and 1 p.m.) or during Shift II (between 12 p.m. 8p.m.). But we prefer volunteers who can be available for that entire time period if possible.
If you are interested in volunteering, please email me ([email protected]) and I’ll be in touch later this week with a list of training dates, times and locations.
Please forward this email to anyone else you think may be able to help us out!
Thanks!
