Join Local Crime Alert Networks
On Mondaynight of the 19th, I recieved a text from a friend in the neighborhood, telling me of an armed robbery about three blocks from my house, giving me the time, interesection, and a brief description of who to be on the lookout for. I’m guessing I was one of many recipients.
I sent the same messgae to everyone I know in the neigborhood, and an hour later, when this came full circle, hundreds of people had been alerted.
This came up for discussion all week and I mentioned it briefly at the meeting at Buffa’s on Friday. The idea seemed to have grown legs.
Friend’s of Wendy’s, Drunah & Andrea, had the same experience and idea, but have taken this to another level. They have created a website where you can join your neighborhood group (don’t freak out if you ‘hood isn’t on there. Make contact and work it out. This thing is brand spanking new). Once you’re signed up, by dialing a specific number, and texting in your crime repost, it will be sent by text to everyone else in your group.
While some may find this a little cumbersome, anything new takes time to learn. It certainly seems easier then reforwarding a text message to 10 contacts at a time, as my phone & service require.
The information can be found here.
