‘tit Rex

How’s that for a Carnival oriented blog post title? Now before you get too worked up and frothing at the mouth ‘tit is short for petit, not a reference to something more mammalian.

This year marks the debut of ‘tit Rex, the first Micro-Krewe. (Proper pronunciation: T Rex. Like the band) No that does not mean it only has 3 or 4 members. It means that the floats are shoebox sized, the throws are in miniature, and the route is only nine blocks long. This is one of the most incredibly fun ideas I have seen since the debut of Barkus!

Now here is the inside scoop, direct from one of the Krewe (all I’ll tell you is she makes brilliant voodoo dolls, and speaks with a Russian accent) The flier doesn’t mention that New Orleans favorites Egg Yolk Jubilee will be adding their battery of brass to the proceedings. They’ve even secured a permit and police escort! The rain date is Sunday, Feb. 15, same time, starting at 5:30 pm at Bacchanal. Let’s hope they have good weather for their grand debut!

I have Krewe of Chartreuse commitments that day and am furious that I will not be able to attend, please take and share pictures if you attend. I really think this could be the start of something really fun that could become a vital part of Mardi Gras! (If you are a Flickr user please ad them to either the Mardi Gras 2009 and HumidCity communities. I’m a moderator for both and will clear them as rapidly as possible!
