Heard ‘Bout The Birds?

Five years ago this coming August, this was Buras, Louisiana, after it sustained a direct hit from Hurricane Katrina:

The woman who keeps putting up the latest on Buras’ recovery is now scared for her husband’s livelihood….and with good reason. But there is something good coming out of Buras at this time, and I ask all you Humid City readers to check it out:

Yep, there’s a whole lot of bird cleaning going on, and you have the opportunity to help. This is the First Draft blog’s last day of fundraising for adopting a bird that desperately needs a bath. They’ve already raised enough money for a good-sized pelican family to get clean, but they need more. And you can name the birds. So get on over to the tip jar over there, put “birds” in the comment with your contribution, and let the baths continue.

You can still help the birds beyond the First Draft call to action by heading for the Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research site and contributing there. Because nobody wants the avian population to get burned by the nasty oil and Corexit combo currently in the Gulf.
